Daily Bread Challenge: Jan2013 Nuggets & Quotes(2-min read)

A loved one gave me a copy of the Daily Bread at the start of 2013. Not sure if this is the issue for this year, in terms of the ideal biblical passages to be read per day. But since I have a copy anyway, and since we should not limit learning to what’s in the newest books, I decided to embark on a year-long journey of reading it daily, as part of my F-component. And blog about the nuggets of wisdom and quotes in a series of posts, so I can go back to its teachings from time to time. And for your reading pleasure as well.

Below is my attempt to capture the message for the day in one to two-liners. Sometimes, I used the exact lines and quotes from Daily Bread. Here comes Daily Bread bite-size for January 2013.

January 2013

Day
Bite-size Nugget of Wisdom
1
God’s promises and prophecies trumps all New Year predictions.
2
Use power and talents given to us to help people.
3
The Bible is daily bread, not cake reserved for special occasions.
4
We have to lose our selves in Christ to find it anew. (Deep huh?)
5
Value the time we have, the very limited time we have.
6
Those prepared to die are those most ready to live.
7
Sympathy. Weep with those who weep.
8
God’s holiness removes our sinfulness.
9
Persevere. In life and in faith. Live a persevering faith.
10
Don’t succumb to routine, always think how to creatively love God and others.
11
God brings out the good in all things, even in failures and misses.
12
Temptations can be occasions to trust God.
13
Answer softly in the face of anger, then leave it to God.
14
When life is filled with shadows, turn around and face the sunshine of God’s love.
15
Worship. Worship. Worship.
16
Cast your burdens upon the Lord.
17
Think, then thank. Be grateful to God.
18
Practice random acts of kindness.
19
Money is a good servant but a poor master. Money should not be your highest goal.
20
Sharing Christ’s love is our mission,
21
The Lord is always watching us lovingly. So should we.
22
Faith allows us to see the unseen.
23
Green and red lights in Scripture are meant to guide us, just like in traffic lights.
24
Time spent with the Lord is time well spent.
25
Many people are lonely because they build walls, not bridges.
26
Feed your faith and your doubts will starve.
27
God allows challenges in our lives to better us, not to destroy us.

Stress-tests, pruning and ruggedization.

28
To show His love, Jesus died for us. To show our love, we must live for Him.
29
To love a friend is natural, to love an enemy is Christlike.
30
God loves us hopelessly undeserving humans. God loves you, not because of you, but because of Him.
31
The Old Testament altar points to the New Testament Cross.

Onwards to February 2013!
